Tackle It Tuesday: 2.OA.3

I am joining 3 Teacher Chicks for Tackle it Tuesday again.

Today, I have focused on the Second Grade Common Core Math Standard 2.OA.3: I can group objects to tell if a number is even or odd. My product “A Day at the Zoo – Number Sort,” is a task card sorting activity that can be used by a small group of students or individual students.  I love task cards because they can be used for a practice activity, a game, or even an assessment.

If you print the task cards on cardstock, they should last all year.  Of course, you can laminate them to make them even more durable. Check out the other products that teachers have created to tackle the Common Core State Standards.

Monday Made It

Happy Monday! I am linking up with Tara for Monday Made It
I am still in love with my Cameo Silhouette and finding ways to use it around the house and classroom.
1. I have decided to go with a superhero theme in my classroom this year. The first thing I knew I needed to create was a cover for my students' take home folders.
I have been using different variations of "BEAR" books for the last three years, and I love the constant communication between school and home.  Parents love these folders as well because they help their students learn to be organized and responsible. My next project will be to create the inside pages for the HERO folders.
2. I pinned this I love you because chalkboard over a year ago.  After finding a cute framed chalkboard, I decided it was time to make this pin reality.  I just used my Cameo to cut out the letters on white sticker paper.  My kind of project…easy and quick. I can't wait to use this with my fiancé.

3. Our new neighborhood is focusing on reducing landfill waste, so there is a stress on recycling and composting.  We immediately realized that our old trashcan was not going to meet our new needs.  I started looking online and was shocked that two and three compartment trashcans were $100 to $200! I also noticed that the compartments were too small to be useful.  While walking through IKEA, we found these simple trashcans for only $13.  We decided to buy 3 and when we got home I broke out the Cameo to label each trashcan.  I used blue cardstock and Mod Podge to attach the letters to the lid of each can.  So far, these trashcans are working out perfectly.
I realize it should say bottles & cans, but the "s" was cut off and I was too lazy to cut out a new one.

4th of July in Pictures

I hope everyone had a festive and fun Fourth of July.  We celebrated by having a few friends over to our new house for a barbeque.  Here is a little recap of our day in pictures:

A holiday wouldn't be a holiday without some festive desserts

...and of course festive beverages

A big thanks to Smitten with First for the adorable chevron sign! Head on over to my store and shop around! I hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th of July.

Tackle It Tuesday: CCSS 2.L.1 Collective Nouns

Since this will be my first year teaching second grade, I have been spending some time familiarizing myself with the second grade common core standards.  I have also been looking back at the resources I created for my third graders and adapting them for my new second graders.  However, I’ve noticed that there are some second grade standards that are not covered in third grade.

For my first new product, I decided to design an activity to practice the second grade language standard 2.L.1: Use collective nouns.  It is called A Day at the Zoo with Collective Nouns because I focused on the collective nouns related to animals.

The matching game can be used all year round for frequent practice of these animal collective nouns since they are not often used in regular conversations.

I also included an assessment to test students' knowledge after you feel they have had sufficient time to practice the skill by playing the game.
